The morning sun filtered softly through the large windows of Kabir's room. He was adjusting his cufflinks, getting ready for the hospital when he heard a knock. It surprised him to see his father, Dr. Abhimanyu Singhania, step inside. Visits like this were rare. And in the morning? Almost unheard of. Before Kabir could ask, his mother, Dr. Akriti Singhania, followed. Kabir turned, sensing something was unusual. "If there was something important, you could've called me to your room," Kabir said, his tone gentle but curious. Is it about the hospital? As far as I know, things are running smoothly." Abhimanyu gave a faint smile and shook his head and said "It's not always about work, Kabir. Sometimes, it's about you too." Kabir frowned slightly, his hands falling still. "About me? What is it?" Akriti stepped forward with that knowing softness only mothers carry. "Listen, Kabir... I know you'll deny this. But yesterday, your Dadi noticed. I noticed. Even your Dadu noticed the way you kept looking toward Kashish Diwan." Kabir exhaled, already weary of where this conversation was heading. "Maa, it was just a casual conversation. It's only been... three meetings? Nothing more than that." Abhimanyu chuckled lightly, exchanging a glance with Akriti and said "We've been thinking about your marriage for a while now. You're settled, doing good work, earning awards... Now it's time to think of your personal life too. This room of yours could use a woman's presence. And this house could use another daughter-in-law." He threw a playful look toward Akriti. "Your mother is quite eager, you know. Wants to join the club of 'mother-in-law' alongside Nandini Bhabhi, Sandhya Bhabhi, and Jeevika Bhabhi." Their soft laughter lightened the moment, but the purpose remained. Akriti returned to the point with gentle persistence. "We were thinking... about speaking to Dr. Ranveer and Dr. Avni Diwan. About Kashish. She seems well-rooted, grounded in her family values. And we've known the Diwans for years. Your Dadi trusts their upbringing." Kabir fell quiet, processing the conversation with a mind trained to analyze facts not feelings. "But Maa, Papa... are the Diwans even thinking about Kashish's marriage? What if they misunderstand?" Abhimanyu gave him the steady, patient smile of a father who had seen life unfold in its own time. "We're not rushing, beta. Nothing will happen without your consent. We'll only take a step forward if you allow it." Kabir ran a hand through his hair, letting out a slow breath. "It feels strange... a girl I've only met three times, and now marriage talks? It's... unexpected." "We're not concluding anything today, Kabir," his father reassured him. "Think about it. That's all we ask." Akriti's voice softened again and said "So... only if you allow it, can we speak to Ranveer and Avni?" Kabir leaned slightly on his desk, the weight of his parent's expectations mixing with his own hesitations. "Now that you've thought this through... and if this also involves Dadaji and Dadiji, then go ahead. But just make sure it doesn't seem like we're rushing. Kashish is young. I don't think the Diwans are even considering her marriage yet." Abhimanyu smiled knowingly. "That's why I said... no rush. Just a conversation, not a proposal." Akriti nodded in agreement. "And we trust their wisdom as much as they trust ours. We're not strangers; we're just... thinking ahead." Kabir gave a small nod, though part of him remained unconvinced. "Fine," he said under his breath. "Let's see where this goes kabir murmered." Abhimanyu patted his son's shoulder, his smile warm. "It will go where it's meant to, Kabir. You'll see." With that, both parents quietly left the room. The door clicked shut. Kabir exhaled slowly, the silence settling around him once more. "Don't know where this conversation will lead..." he said softly, half to himself, half to the empty room. He shook his head faintly, picked up his coat, and stepped out for the hospital.
It was late afternoon when Vaidehi Diwan picked up her phone and dialed an old, familiar number. On the other end, Shivangi Singhania answered, already knowing who it was. There was a brief moment of shared silence, the kind only old friends can share. "I was expecting a call from you today, Shivangi," Vaidehi said teasingly, a soft smile in her tone. Shivangi chuckled. "And I was expecting this conversation too, Vaidehi." Vaidehi's laughter deepened, fond and knowing. "Come on, Shivangi. We've known each other for over fifty years. I can read your silence. Speak your heart. I just want to hear it from your side." Shivangi sighed, a little hesitant despite herself. "You noticed it too, didn't you, Vaidehi? The way Kabir's eyes didn't stray far from your granddaughter Kashish last night." "I did notice," Vaidehi replied, gentle amusement in her voice and continued asking Shivangi "So tell me what's on your mind?". Shivangi replied softly but clearly "I know my grandson well, Vaidehi. He understands everyone else's emotions, but never recognizes his own. But last night... I saw something different. His eyes shined when he looked at Kashish. I don't know how you'll take this, but we... we're thinking of your Kashish for our Kabir." She paused briefly, then added with sincerity, "I know Kashish is still young. Maybe you're not even thinking about her marriage yet. There's no rush, no pressure. Just... think about it once. We've known each other so long, and I trust your upbringing. Please don't take this the wrong way." Vaidehi laughed softly. "When did you start speaking so formally with me, Shivangi? You forget how well I know you and Devansh bhaisaab, your whole family, Kabir too. He's a wonderful boy, well-mannered, respected, a brilliant doctor, and grounded. Kabir would be a good match for Kashish, no doubt." She added warmly, "And like you said, no rush, no pressure. You don't need to stress yourself. For your information, I've already planted the thought in Angad Ji's mind... I told him last night itself that I wouldn't be surprised if the Singhania,s come with this idea." Shivangi smiled in relief. Shivangi replied to vaidehi that, Abhimanyu and Akriti are planning to meet Ranveer and Avni soon, just to discuss this openly." Vaidehi nodded. "Yes, I know. Ranveer and Avni mentioned they got a call from Abhimanyu. Let's leave it to the parents now, see what they decide for these two." With a knowing smile in her tone, Vaidehi added, "And don't worry, Angad and I... we're already on the side of this connection." Shivangi laughed softly and replied saying "And so I and Devansh Ji."
The call ended with warm goodbyes, two grandmothers smiling to themselves, knowing how life gently moves from one generation to the next.
