23. The Happy Family

Authors POV

The news of Kabir and Kashish's decision spread through the Singhania Mansion like a wave of happiness. For a family that had seen generations grow together with tradition and love, this moment felt no less special. Akriti, usually composed as a mother, couldn't hold back her emotions. Overwhelmed with joy, Akriti embraced her sisters-in-law, Nandini, Sandhya, and Jeevika. Tears glistening in her eyes as she smiled softly. "It feels like just yesterday he was a little boy... and today, he's taking this step," she whispered, her happiness blending with gratitude and quiet pride. Nandini, her elder sister-in-law, hugged her like a true elder sister would, her tone teasing yet full of warmth. "I'm looking forward to seeing you in a new role now, Akriti... From a fierce, bold emergency doctor to a loving and caring mother-in-law." Akriti laughed softly through her tears. Then came Sandhya. Among all, only Sandhya truly understood how deeply Akriti had yearned to see this day  to see Kabir as a groom, as someone's husband. Their hug lasted longer, holding more emotion than words could express. They didn't need to speak; their silence carried years of shared sisterhood and understanding. Finally, Jeevika approached with her ever-soft smile, holding a plate of sweets. Without saying much, she playfully fed Akriti the first bite. "Congratulations, Bhabhi," she said, her tone light but full of warmth.

Abhimanyu, Kabir's father, hugged his son with rare warmth and pride. "You've chosen well... and wisely," he said simply, but Kabir understood coming from his father, these words carried weight. Devansh Dadu and Shivangi Dadi placed their hands on Kabir's head, blessing him with the same affection they had blessed all their grandsons with. "Dil se dua hai, beta. Rab hamesha tum dono ka bhala kare," Shivangi said, her voice soft, her smile content. Akriti pulled Kabir into another quiet hug, this time a mother's hug  tight, emotional, filled with silent prayers only mothers offer in their hearts. His brothers, Jay, Shourya, Riaan, Raiansh, Yug and Naksh, one by one hugged him, teasing lightly but full of genuine warmth. "Finally, the most silent Singhania is bringing home his partner. This will be fun," Jay quipped with a grin, earning chuckles from the others. Riaan,  with a sharp eye for opportunities like this, leaned back with a smirk "Look at our Dr. Kabir Singhania... From OT to mandap in record time. Who would've thought?" Shourya, never missing a beat, added dramatically, "And here we thought he'd need a medical emergency to even admit he liked someone!" Raiansh, grinning, folded his arms "Coffee turned into dinner, dinner turned into yes, and now shaadi? That's some fast treatment plan, Dr. Saab." Naksh continued the teasing saying "And we thought you were allergic to the word 'romance'. Turns out Doctor saab had a secret prescription ready all along!" Yug, couldn't hold back his grin. "Arey bhai, say it once clearly how did the Silent Kabir Singhania manage to convince Kashish Diwan without even blinking twice?"

The teasing continued with no sign of slowing down. Their wives Diya, Tanushri, Paridhi, and Piyali, were practically glowing with excitement. To them, this wasn't just about Kabir's wedding. It was about finally welcoming the one person who would complete their quiet, serious devar's life. Piyali laughed, shaking her head in mock sympathy. "We already love her but poor Kashish, she doesn't know what madness she's marrying into." Her words earned a round of knowing chuckles. Diya, being the eldest bhabhi and carrying her full Jethani swag, gave Kabir a look that mixed affection with teasing authority "Finally, the composed one  is settling down. And here I thought you'd keep hiding behind your hospital shifts forever, Kabir. Her tone was playful but carried the warmth of an elder sister-in-law. Paridhi, with her usual sharp instincts and biting sarcasm, added with a smirk, "Kabir don't think just because you're the calm, composed one, you'll get an easy pass. From now on, you'll have to answer to your wife first, then us. In that order." She raised her eyebrows dramatically, earning laughter from everyone. Tanushri, usually the silent supporter came to tease her favorite devar, finally spoke up, her soft tone hiding a mischievous glint. "Bas ek baat, Kabir bhaiya when you bring Kashish home, don't think we'll let her believe you're this innocent. We'll make sure she knows every story we've kept quiet about till now." She shared a wink with the others. Kabir, for once, just smiled. He knew resistance was pointless. These were his people. This was his chaos. And for the first time he didn't mind being the center of it.

And of course, his Gen Z squad brothers ad sisters, Yatharth, Alia, Arohi, and Ivaan , were already exchanging mischievous looks from the corner of the room. One could bet they were silently plotting how to turn every function  from the roka to the reception  into pure, delightful chaos. Yatharth whispered dramatically, "Bhai's wedding is our playground now." Alia, smirking, added, "Poor Kashish Bhabhi, she has no clue the madness she's walking into. First the bhabhi squad now us." Arohi giggled, "Decor? Themes? Sangeet pranks? I'm already making lists." Ivaan, the smartest troublemaker of them all, simply said, "Mission: Kabir Bhaiya and Kashish Bhabhi's  Marriage Begins." Kabir heard them. Kabir knew. And for the first time, the usually calm, composed neurosurgeon could only sigh and smile.

Just then, from the elders' side of the room, Rajeev Bade Papa spoke up, his tone affectionate but filled with the authority of experience. Rajeev (with a teasing smile): "Bas Kabir now prepare yourself. After this, life's surgeries won't come with anesthesia. Marriage ka OT is a lifelong process  and no leave sanctioned." Everyone laughed, but Kabir simply gave a knowing smile. He had grown up watching these bonds; this teasing felt like home. Aman Chachu, always the sharp-witted one, joined in with his signature dry humor. Aman continued the teasing saying "Don't worry, Kabir. We lawyers survive courtrooms, you'll survive your sasural and Just follow the golden rule  'haan bolo, chup raho'." Before Kabir could even react, Arjun Chachu, the coolest of them all, leaned in with a mischievous grin saying And remember Kabir wedding functions are like stitches. The tighter you hold your patience, the smoother your healing. But have fun too, haan? Because these days don't come twice." Kabir couldn't help but chuckle. Between his Bade Papa's wisdom, Aman Chachu's sarcasm, and Arjun Chachu's effortless cool  he knew he was surrounded by every version of what family truly meant

And so, in the laughter, teasing, and warmth of both generations, from elders to the Gen Z squad, the Singhania house glowed with joy. Kabir, usually calm and reserved, allowed himself a rare, soft smile. This wasn't just about a wedding. This was about family, about new beginnings.

The Diwan mansion was glowing with warmth the moment Kashish returned with her answer. Her grandparents, Angad and Vaidehi, couldn't hide their happiness. They had always liked the Singhania family, respected their values, and trusted their roots. This alliance, to them, felt like a blessing. Angad Dadu smiled with pride, "Singhania family is one of the finest... but more than that, they are good people. And that's what matters." Vaidehi Dadi added, softly touching Kashish's head, "You'll be loved there, just like here." Ranveer, her father, was quietly pleased. He had known Kabir well enough to understand the kind of man he was dignified, respectful, a true gentleman. For a father, nothing mattered more. He looked at Kashish with warmth. "Beti, Kabir is a man of very few words... but the right ones. You'll be safe with him. That's all a father can ask for." Avni... Avni had known all along. A mother always knows. She had seen the quiet warmth in Kashish's eyes whenever Kabir's name came up. "I knew it," Avni smiled as she hugged her daughter. "A mother doesn't need words. I've seen how your face changes when you talk about him." Her Chachu and Chachi, Raghav and Natasha, pulled Kashish into a warm hug. Raghav Chachu teased lightly, "Our little princess marrying a gem. What else could we ask for?" Natasha Chachi smiled, "You're lucky, Kashish. He seems like someone who'll understand you well." Her elder brother Samrath, ever the composed one, placed a hand on her head, blessing her silently before speaking in his calm, big-brother tone. "You've made a good choice, Kashish. A life partner who will always respect you, nothing more matters." Then came Shivansh, her other elder brother, her closest. His eyes glistened just a little too much before Nurvi bhabhi walked in, breaking the emotional moment with a gentle tease. "Shivansh, don't get too sentimental now," Nurvi smiled warmly, squeezing Kashish's hand. "She's not going anywhere just gaining a bigger family now." Kashish laughed softly as she looked at her brother's face turning awkward "You know I'm still your little sister first, bhaiya." Soumya quietly touched Samrath's back, grounding him. She knew her husband well  he might not speak often of his feelings, but she could feel them "You don't say much but you love her the most. She's in good hands now." Abhir and Prisha hugged Kashish from both sides. Abhir, always ready to pull her leg, smirked. "And to think there was a time you said, 'I'd never marry a doctor!' See how fate works?" Prisha laughed, joining in, "What happened to all those lectures about not wanting doctor-shaadi drama, Bhabhi?" Even Dhruv, her younger brother, didn't let the moment pass. "Yeah Didi, remember your 'no doctors' rule? Guess the heart makes its own rules," he grinned. Laughter filled the room. Light-hearted, pure, and full of love.

That night, Kashish received a video call from her elder cousin, Sayoni. A surgeon and a perfectionist, Sayoni's typically stern demeanor persisted even through the call. The moment Kashish answered, Sayoni, arms folded and serious, said teasingly, "See? I told you. You ran from medicine, hospitals, doctors, but fate brought it to your doorstep. And this time, you're marrying it." Kashish laughed, recognizing Sayoni's peculiar affection. "Didi, even destiny struggled to convince me. But yes, you finally have a doctor in your 'anti-doctor' sister's life." Sayoni's expression softened. "Good. He's a doctor he'll understand patience, which you'll need. And don't let your Architect acumen constantly override his medical logic." Kashish teased, "You forget, he's a Singhania. They're even more stubborn than us Diwans." Sayoni feigned exasperation "God help him." Beneath the teasing, Kashish detected Sayoni's genuine warmth. "I'm happy for you, Kashish. You deserve someone good, and I can tell Kabir is exactly that." Touched, Kashish replied, "Thank you, Didi. That means a lot." Sayoni gave a final, mock-strict warning: "Behave. Be happy. And tell Dr. Singhania his sister-in-law is watching." They ended the call with laughter, a blend of tradition, family, and affection.
