Kabir's POV
Exhausted from the day as always, neurosurgery is demanding, but ever since I got married, my fatigue fades the moment I see Kashish, especially when she hands me my coffee just the way I like it. Today, I was expecting her in the room, maybe sketching one of her architectural pieces.
As I stepped into the bedroom, what I saw made me pause, Kashish was sleeping peacefully, with little Krish cuddled up close to her chest. I couldn't help but wonder how this tiny champ had ended up in my room, so close to Kashish. See, Kabir, your nephew is already ahead of you, I thought to myself.
This was different side of Kashish, the tender, nurturing part that had been quietly waiting behind her confident, professional demeanor. The way she held Krish so effortlessly, the ease with which she exuded warmth and care, made me pause.
I took a step closer, noticing the calm, contented expression on Kashish's face. I'd never imagined she'd be so gentle and patient with children. Just then, Kashish stirred, opening her eyes. "Kabir, you came early today. Why are you standing?" she asked softly.
"I finished my major surgeries," I replied, stepping in. "It was an OT day, so I only had surgeries today." I crouched slightly and gently caressed Krish. "And how come this little monster is here?"
Kashish glanced at the sleeping toddler. "Actually, Paridhi Bhabhi had a video conference, also Riaan bhaiya is not home yet, and Krish was disturbing her, so I brought him here."
Krish stirred, stretching his little arms toward me. "Chachu, you here! Me get up cause of you" He spoke in his baby tone, slightly jumbled, not entirely clear, but I and Kashish understood him perfectly.
"Oh, you got up because of me?" I teased, giving him a playful little squeeze on his tummy. The laughter that bubbled from him was contagious, and Kashish laughed along with us.
Krish toddled over to Kashish, pleading softly, "Chachi, bachooo!" He climbed onto her lap, taking her hands in his tiny ones. ""Chachi, so soft! Chachu, Chachi soft!" " he exclaimed, signing toward her hands as if demanding I join in. (help me)
Kashish and I exchanged a surprised glance, both of us silently thinking the same, Where did this little guy learn to say that?
Just then, a knock at the door broke the moment, easing the slight embarrassment.
Authors POV
As Kabir opened the door, Paridhi was standing there. "Can I come in?" she asked. "Of course, Bhabhi," Kabir replied with a small smile "Do you need permission to come inside my room bhabhi?" Paridhi shook her head saying "One still has to ask before entering a married couple's room," she said, stepping inside.
She noticed Krish sitting comfortably on Kashish's lap "Thank you, Kashish. If you hadn't taken him, he would never have let me attend my video conference." Kashish smiled softly. "It's okay, Bhabhi. By the way, he slept peacefully." Paridhi then turned to Krish. "Come on, Krish, come to Mumma." Kabir interjected, "Let him stay, Bhabhi. He's having fun."
(Kabir and Kashish with Krish)
Kashish nodded in agreement. "Yes, Bhabhi, let him stay." Krish looked up excitedly and said in baby tone "Yes, I want Chachu and Chachi."
Paridhi laughed gently "No, Krish, come with me." She scooped him up and looked at both of them and said "You two enjoy your time together. And what about this little one, yesterday he wouldn't leave Shourya and Tanushri alone. I'll go now, I'll send you both some coffee."
With that, she left leaving Kabir, Kashish with their quiet little world.
As Paridhi left with Krish, Kabir noticed Kashish getting up from the bed to put away the shopping bags she'd bought earlier that day with the other bhabis.
"So, how was your shopping day?" Kabir asked.
Kashish smiled, her eyes sparkling with the kind of joy that only comes from a day well spent "We had so much fun! We shopped like crazy, picked outfits for every function according to the theme."
Kabir chuckled. "Looks like you really enjoyed it with all the bhabis."
"Yes," she said, still smiling. "The bhabis are really funny."
Carrying two bags, she sat beside him on the bed. "I brought something for you. Hope you like it."
Kabir took the bags and peeked inside. Inside he saw two designer sherwanis "Oh, this is perfect. By the way, I love your choice of clothes, you know that, right?"
She smiled and said "One is for your Naksh's Roka, and the other for the Haldi ceremony. As for the rest of your shopping, I heard you and Bhaiya's are planning to go together." (Brothers)
"Maybe tomorrow," Kabir replied. "The designer asked us to come then."
She nodded and handed him his card, which he had given her earlier that afternoon. "Take your card."
Kabir shook his head. "Oh, keep it with you."
"But Kabir, I have my own," she protested.
"Then it's yours too. Take it I have other cards as well."
Realizing there was no point arguing, she finally slipped the card into her purse. Kabir watched her with a soft smile before heading into the bathroom to freshen up
✨✨
It was 11 pm. The dinner was done, the house quiet, and Kashish was lying on the bed, completely absorbed in her favorite TV drama, "Rishton Ka Bandhan", where two sisters-in-law were locked in a heated argument over family property. She couldn't take her eyes off the screen, her expressions shifting between amusement and suspense as the drama unfolded.
Kabir came in from the balcony, still on a call from the hospital. Hanging up, he looked at her and said, "Kashish, this is your fourth consecutive episode. I didn't know you were so TV drama addicted."
Kashish looked at him, slightly guilty but playful, and handed him the remote "I'm so sorry take this. Watch whatever you want." Kabir shook his head with a smile. "No, it's okay. You watch. Enjoy your show." She protested lightly and said, "No, you can take the remote." "I'm fine," he replied, settling on his side of the bed. "Let me see what Indian TV drama is offering now."
Kashish laughed softly, teasing, "You watching TV dramas?" He chuckled, "Why are these two ladies shouting at each other like this?"
She explained the plot: "They are sisters-in-law, arguing over property. One is trying to control the family business, the other is trying to protect her husband. And now, they've started blaming each other for everything that went wrong in the house!"
Kabir laughed, shaking his head. "Oh my God, Neurosurgery is less complicated than these TV dramas."
Just then, a hospital scene appeared on screen. A doctor dramatically yelled at a intern for misplacing patient files. Kabir's eyes widened. "What... what... what are they showing? This doesn't happen in hospitals! Aren't there protocols?" Kashish giggled, nudging him. "Chill, Kabir. It's a drama. Just watch quietly."
She then whispered, narrating the exaggerated hospital scene "See, the intern misplaced an X-ray report, and now the senior doctor is scolding everyone. The patient's family has also arrived, adding to the chaos. And look the other doctor is secretly helping the patient's file behind everyone's back!"
Kabir shook his head in amusement. "Unbelievable, real hospital life is nothing like this."
Kashish laughed quietly, her eyes sparkling. "That's why it's fun to watch. Sometimes, life in dramas is crazier than reality." And with that, they both settled back, Kabir half-watching, half-listening as Kashish continued her indulgent TV escape, the soft glow of the screen highlighting her content smile.
As the drama ended and the TV went off, Kashish adjusted the pillows behind her, settling down for sleep. Kabir turned towards her, lying on his side with just a small space between them.
"Kashish," he said quietly, "tomorrow I'll be leaving early around 6 am. I have important surgeries lined up. And I'll probably be late at night too." Kashish blinked, surprised. "Six in the morning and you'll be late too?" Kabir nodded. "Yes."
She thought for a moment, then said softly, "Alright. I'll wake up early and make your breakfast." Kabir immediately shook his head. "No, no, Kashish. You sleep. I'll manage in the canteen. Besides, I don't usually eat that early anyway." "Hmm, fine," she replied, but her eyes still carried concern "At least promise me you'll come home in one piece tomorrow. And I'll tell Sujit kaka to drop your lunch from home."
He looked at her, half-smiling. "So you won't listen to me?" "Of course not," she teased gently. "If you've made it clear that I shouldn't think twice before asking you for money, then I also shouldn't think twice before sending lunchboxes to your hospital." Kabir let out a soft laugh. "Alright then okay."
They both lay there, still facing each other, their words slowing down into small, easy exchanges simple talk of the day, the hospital, her work, little nothings. Gradually, their voices faded into silence, and with that quiet closeness, they drifted into sleep
